Montague Accepts Position at Argonne National Laboratory

Mairead Montague

We are thrilled to announce that our MTV Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr. Mairead E. Montague, has recently accepted a full-time position at Argonne National Lab as an Applied Physicist in the Non-Traditional Program Office within the Materials Science Division! In her new role, Dr. Montague will be conducting research on novel detection capabilities, particularly for signal detection in harsh, complicated, and complex environments.

Dr. Mairead Montague earned her PhD in nuclear engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in January 2024, where she performed in-residence research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Dr. Montague’s dissertation title was “Characterization of a Proof-of-Concept Imager to Safeguard Spent Nuclear Fuel Using Passive Fast Neutron Emission Tomography.”

Dr. Montague’s current research with my Detection for Nuclear Nonproliferation Group at U-M focused on neutron detection with organic scintillators for nonproliferation applications. She received her M.S. in nuclear engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in December 2019 and her B.S. in nuclear engineering in May 2018 from the University of California, Berkeley.
